| Title: | Information retrieval in MEDLINE®: Searching for literature
about critical care |
| Subjects: | I. Information treatment for information services > ID. Data and metadata structures B. Information use and sociology of information L. Information technology and library technology |

| Abstract: | More than ever, update of knowledge and decision making
in health care are based on the use of recent
scientific information. The effects of the information
society’s technological transformation are visible in the
most frequent options of clinicians, being common the
use of databases, in order to keep pace with the rapid
growth of scientific publications. The most frequently
used database is MEDLINE. Thus, in order to understand
its functioning, especially related to subject searching, the way information is represented and the possible forms of
retrieval will be analyzed. In this context, a study carried
out to get update information about subject information
retrieval will be presented in the detail. The results are
interpreted based on recognized effectiveness measures
of evaluating information systems. |
