Abstract

In the first part of this paper, a review is made of Spanish legislation in the field of artistic, bibliographic and document heritage. The antecedents of the present law are also commented upon and emphasis made on the autonomous/local juridical level as well as on the university legislation on the matter. The second part of the paper is focused on the Spanish intellectual property law and provides a broad vision on the concept, subjects, objects, protection mechanisms and boundaries to intellectual property. Finally, some questions of present relevance are brought up concerning intellectual property in libraries, such as the new fee for borrowing books, the digital preservation or Document Supply Services.
