| Abstract: | This paper addresses some previous notions to the MARC format definition, traces back its origins to present time and overviews the history of its geographic varieties, the basic components of a MARC record based on the ISO 2709, as well as the different varieties of MARC 21 in terms of its application. The paper goes on to deal with the maintenance and development of such formats and suggests a number of questions regarding its (possible) future. |
| Other Abstracts: | Este trabajo aborda algunos conceptos previos a la definición de formato MARC, hace un recorrido desde su origen hasta la actualidad y repasa brevemente la historia de sus variedades geográficas, los componentes básicos de cualquier registro MARC según ISO 2709 así como también las distintas variedades del formato MARC 21 en lo que se refiera a su aplicación. El trabajo concluye con el mantenimiento y desarrollo de estos formatos y apunta varias cuestiones sobre su (posible) futuro. |
