| Abstract: | The evolution of the Information and Communication Technologies exert an evident influence in several aspects of human life, inlcuding work spaces, the ways for social interaction and the development of many academic disciplines. Digital tools became the main element of a “Knowledge Society” turning in a constant movement and a dynamic progress. Among these new elements, one of the most spread ones are the weblogs, independent and self-managed virtual spaces which offer unsuspected opportunities for digital communication and for knowledge spread in the web. Because of their strong features, blogs are experiencing an overwhelming proliferation and popularity. Libraries could take good profit of this digital resource -and its freedom, high visibility and open access- in order to improve their services, their relationship with their real and potential users and their institutional and professional links. This paper presents a brief review of the weblog concept and history and analyzes several general proposals on the relationship of libraries with these new electronic platforms. |
| Other Abstracts: | La evolución de las Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación ha ejercido una influencia evidente en muchos aspectos de la vida del hombre, desde sus espacios de trabajo hasta sus formas de interacción social y el desarrollo de muchas disciplinas académicas. Las herramientas digitales se han convertido en el principal elemento de una “Sociedad del Conocimiento” en constante movimiento y en dinámico progreso. Uno de los elementos de mayor difusión entre estas nuevas herramientas son los weblogs o bitácoras, espacios virtuales independientes y auto-gestionables, que ofrecen oportunidades insospechadas para la comunicación digital y para la liberación de conocimientos en la web. Gracias a sus sólidas características, los weblogs están experimentando una popularidad y una proliferación arrolladora. Las bibliotcas pueden aprovechar este recurso digital -que proporciona libertad, alta visibilidad y acceso abierto- para mejorar sus servicios, su relación con sus usuarios reales y potenciales y sus vínculos institucionales y profesionales. El artículo presenta una breve revisión del concepto y la historia de los weblogs y analiza algunas propuestas generales en torno a la relación de las bibliotecas con estas novedosas plataformas electrónicas. |
