| Abstract: | We examine and classify the access and reproduction policies of the digital collections of ten leading academic digital libraries according to factors such as the creation type of the material (digitized, born-digital), the acquisition method, the copyright ownership etc. We analyze the relationship of the factors and the policies, showing how the acquisition method and the copyright ownership affect the access and reproduction policies for the digital collections. We derive some quantitative remarks and we conclude with rules about which factors lead to specific policies. For example, when the library has the copyright of the material, the reproduction for private use is provided usually free with a credit to the source or otherwise mostly under fair use provisions and the commercial reproduction needs written permission from and fees given to the library. We extract the common practice on access and reproduction policies. For example, the on-campus onsite access is always free independently of the copyright ownership and the creation type of the material. Finally, we map the conventional access and reproduction policies to digital and we compare them, showing mostly their differences. |
| Other Abstracts: | Εξετάζουμε και αναλύουμε τις πολιτικές πρόσβασης και αναπαραγωγής των ψηφιακών συλλογών δέκα πρωτοπόρων ακαδημαϊκών ψηφιακών βιβλιοθηκών, σύμφωνα με παράγοντες, όπως, ο τύπος δημιουργίας του υλικού (ψηφιοποιημένο, ψηφιακό), η μέθοδος πρόσκτησης, η πνευματική ιδιοκτησία κτλ. Αναλύουμε τη σχέση παραγόντων και πολιτικών, καταδεικνύοντας πως η μέθοδος πρόσκτησης και η πνευματική ιδιοκτησία επηρεάζουν τις πολιτικές πρόσβασης και αναπαραγωγής των ψηφιακών συλλογών. Εξάγουμε μερικές ποσοτικές παρατηρήσεις και καταλήγουμε σε γενικούς κανόνες για το ποιοι παράγοντες οδηγούν σε συγκεκριμένες πολιτικές. Για παράδειγμα, όταν η βιβλιοθήκη έχει τα πνευματικά δικαιώματα του υλικού, η αναπαραγωγή για ιδιωτική χρήση είναι ελεύθερη με τον όρο να υπάρχει αναφορά στην πηγή ή παρέχεται ελεύθερα με βάση τον κανόνα της «θεμιτής χρήσης», και η εμπορική αναπαραγωγή απαιτεί γραπτή άδεια από τη βιβλιοθήκη και κάποια πληρωμή στη βιβλιοθήκη. Εξάγουμε την κοινή πρακτική στις πολιτικές πρόσβασης και αναπαραγωγής. Για παράδειγμα, η πρόσβαση για τους χρήστες της βιβλιοθήκης ή του πανεπιστημίου είναι πάντα ελεύθερη μέσα από τη βιβλιοθήκη ή το πανεπιστήμιο, ανεξάρτητα από την πνευματική ιδιοκτησία και τον τύπο δημιουργίας του υλικού. Τέλος, κάνουμε μια αντιστοίχιση και σύγκριση μεταξύ των συμβατικών και ψηφιακών πολιτικών πρόσβασης και αναπαραγωγής, καταδεικνύοντας κυρίως τις διαφορές τους. |
