English abstract

The relationship between science and society, and the role of academic library inside new balance environment changed by new technologies is here analysed. The market of economy of knowledge penetrating the society needs to reflect on business models towards distribution models. Open Access is perceived as social pervasiveness tool. On the basis of the old paper by the Dutch Roosendaal and Guerts focused on the forces and functions of scientific information we reflect and compare on the light of their recent work the new strategic positioning of scientific research towards social environment. As a result of social networks, research and society meet emerging new ways of communicating science and new ways to incorporate scientific results within the social environment. The researchers leave the Ivory Tower and build a real scientific citizenship as research entrepreneuse mode. The libraries in this dimension are placed in constant equilibrium with new professions emerging, some strategically positioned relative to the ecosystem.

Italian abstract

Il saggio analizza la relazione tra scienza e società e il ruolo ridefinito della biblioteca accademica all'interno di un ecosistema informativo trasformato dalle nuove tecnologie. Partendo dal classico modello di Roosendaal e Geurts sulle forze e funzioni della comunicazione scientifica e rivisitandolo alla luce degli sviluppi recenti, l'autrice esamina il posizionamento strategico dei ricercatori che lasciano la "torre d'avorio" per integrarsi nell'ambiente sociale, promuovendo una vera e propria cittadinanza scientifica. In questo contesto, l'Open Access viene concettualizzato non come un mero modello economico, ma come un pervasivo modello di distribuzione e un bene comune (intellectual commons). Vengono inoltre evidenziati i rischi dell'editoria predatoria, le sfide della e-science e della gestione dei dati di ricerca (OpenData), fino alla necessità per i bibliotecari di sviluppare nuove competenze legate alla Digital Curation e alla Content Curation per agire come propulsori e snodi di mediazione tra la ricerca e i cittadini.
