English abstract

The paper takes a cue from the report on the new professional profiles required by Italian academic and research libraries, published in the first 2013 issue of «AIB studi». The author wonders if, given the current legislative and economic circumstances, such proposals – even though correct and legitimate – may realistically be taken into due consideration by Italian politicians and academic governance. Even if it is right to contemplate foreign models such as the American one, the Italian situation – despite some undeniable steps forward – is still too different from that of other countries, especially in terms of staff recruitment and of the effective correspondence between the tasks required and what’s really necessary to run academic and research institutions.

L’articolo prende spunto dal dossier – pubblicato sul primo numero del 2013 di «AIB studi» – sui nuovi profili professionali dei bibliotecari che operano nelle strutture universitarie e di ricerca italiane. Pur concordando con le proposte avanzate, vengono tuttavia sollevati dei dubbi sulla reale possibilità che nell’attuale contesto legislativo e economico sia possibile ottenere su questi temi la dovuta attenzione da parte del mondo politico italiano e della governance degli atenei. Sebbene sia giusto prendere ad esempio modelli stranieri come quello americano, la realtà italiana pare – malgrado qualche indiscutibile passo in avanti – ancora troppo lontana da quegli esempi, specie per quel che concerne il reclutamento del personale e l’effettiva rispondenza tra i compiti che si viene chiamati a svolgere e quanto davvero serve per far funzionare la struttura in cui si opera.
