English abstract

The Bibliographic framework initiative – BIBFRAME – is a project initiated by the Library of Congress in order to design an entities/relationships bibliographic description, capable of easing the transition from MARC to linked data and the semantic Web. The paper describes the professional and scientific debate leading to BIBFRAME, the project’s first steps, the structure and classes of the BIBFRAME model, and the other related initiatives.

Il progetto Bibliographic framework initiative (BIBFRAME) della Library of Congress di Washington propone un modello di struttura bibliografica del tipo entità-relazione il cui scopo è la transizione delle strutture bibliografiche dai formati MARC all’ambiente dei dati collegati e del Web semantico. L’articolo analizza il dibattito professionale e scientifico internazionale che conduce a BIBFRAME, le fasi di avvio del progetto, la struttura e le classi del modello proposto, le iniziative e i progetti affini o paralleli a BIBFRAME.
