English abstract

Disinformation is a topic that is becoming more and more relevant. According to several influential voices, the risks related to this phenomenon are undermining the foundations of democratic societies. The current pervasiveness and relevance of the information sphere, based on digital networks, and the evidence presented seem to strongly support this thesis. Given the prominence of this topic, a systemic approach that takes into account various factors and is not limited to a critique of the technology used is necessary. In this essay, the current scenario is analyzed, starting with the definition of ‘Dark Ages 2.0’ and information disorders such as fake news and conspiracy theories. These factors are examined under the critical lenses of narrative and particularly postmodernist literature, in which, among many aspects, information theory is a key element. Based on this analysis, a synthesis is offered, with the aim of reconciling the technological component with sociocultural patterns, in order to foster a continuous and iterative process capable of enhancing, as much as possible, the functionality of the information ecosystem.

La disinformazione è un tema sempre più attuale, e oggetto di numerosi articoli e saggi. Secondo diverse e autorevoli voci, i rischi collegati a questo fenomeno arrivano a minare le fondamenta delle società democratiche. L’attuale pervasività e rilevanza della sfera informativa, basata sulle reti telematiche, e le evidenze presentate sembrano supportare fortemente questa tesi. Data l’importanza di questo argomento è necessario un approccio sistemico che tenga in considerazione diversi fattori e non si limiti ad una critica della tecnologia utilizzata. In questo saggio si prende in considerazione lo scenario attuale partendo dalla definizione che ne viene data di ‘Medioevo 2.0’ e dai disordini informativi tra cui fake news e teoria del complotto; questi vengono analizzati sotto la lente del racconto e in particolare della letteratura postmodernista, in cui, tra i numerosi aspetti, la teoria dell’informazione è un topos fondamentale. Sulla base di questa analisi viene effettuata una sintesi che cerca di conciliare la componente tecnologica con i modelli socioculturali, così da poter avere un processo continuo e iterativo in grado di rendere il più funzionale possibile l’ecosistema informativo.
