The Standard ISO 512 7/2: 1983 Documentation and Information. Vocabulary. Part 2.— defines "document" as a support of information. It is evident, from this point of view, that the Internet is a document. However, what are the characteristics that allow us to define the Internet as another document type? What relations are established between the Internet and other document types? Furthermore, why should we define the Internet whithin these parameters? The aim of this article is to answer these and others questions as well as to establish a scheme of the existing document types, situating the Internet within the context it corresponds to as a document and ending with the scientific definition that we propose for the Internet.
