<abstract xmlns="http://eprints.org/ep2/data/2.0">Master Thesis “Mangement and planning of advanced documental services”, University of Urbino. The work is focused on the SBN cataloguing module (SBN – National Library System, 53 Library Poles) and on the analysis and comparison of three SBN application: cataloguing module Mvs/Adabas (used at the University of Padua during a stage), Unix/x Totem (Pole of Teramo, Library G.D’Annunzio) and Sebina/Indice (Used at the University con Urbino).
Before the analysis of the softwares, is described the experience of SBN in relation to the recent change of the ICCU platform with the usage of SBN in UNIX environment, with a client/server architecture. The sw UNIX is used to build hardware platforms open and counts three level: Pole, Index and local level. Unix is intended to substitute Pole sw. each pole will have a management database and an OPAC one, on the same computer or on different computers. Both will use Unix and will converse between each other with the RCP protocol of TCP/IP. The same conversation between Poles and Index will be based on the TCP/IP protocol.</abstract>
