Some weeks after the round-table conference on e-prints archives in Italy, the purpose of my contribution is, on the one hand, to tidy up the notes and scribbles on the papers of the conference and, on the other, to organize the thoughts concerning the open discussions and talks which raised during the conference.
I divided the several contribution of the round-table conference into four different sessions. At the end of each session, there was an open “thematic” debate concerning the subject.
1) a prescriptive introductory speech on the legal deposit in the National Central Library of Florence (BNFC);
2) Two experiences with Data Provider (DP), meaning the creation of institutional repositories for research and education in the Italian universities of Bologna and Trento;
3) An interval linked with the topic discussed in the morning. It was focused on DAFNE project, the creation of a platform for electronic publishing in Open Source Zope developed by the University of Padua;
4) Three contributions dealing with the proposal of additional services in the repositories developed by third parties: the first one is an example of a portal as a service that integrates the open archives within the library system, the second one is based on the need to develop a service common platform at national level and the third one is a complex system of services that operates at a meta-level.
