A survey of what has happened in the world concerning technological improvements, specifically within information units is here presented. Comparisons between predictions originated by information specialists two decades ago, related to what may happen in the libraries in the year 2000 and what occurs today are discussed. New management views are introduced, to be applied in the context of the existing structures. New paradigms are proposed, which focus on client centered concepts and value added products which are offered in the “libraries of the future”.
