Different aspects characteristic of the information policies are reviewed based on studies carried out by diverse authors. The concepts, functions, tasks, features and stages involved in the implementation of this type of policy are presented. An overview is given on the current situation concerning information policy in different Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
