The evaluation of the scientific literature as a tool for the development of science and technology describes the activities of the CONICYT (Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica), Chile in relation to scientific literature evaluation, specially aspects such as diffusion and access. Criteria for evaluation of scientific periodicals are also discussed.
