I. Indizacion; tesauros; indexing; thesauri The backgrounds of indexing within the National Information System of Medical Sciences are described. Data on the changes ocurred in the Medical Subject Heading. Annotated Alphabetic List in which are pointed out the significant increase of descriptors and synonymous between 1992-1997 are provided. It is emphasized the need of reporting to the System about the changes ocurred in the vocabulary to which practical solutions are proposed such as: the reestablishment of the Daily Indexing Bulletin and its spreading through the INFOMED network. The importance of creating an Indexing Committee for this process and the need of reorganizing the review and/or updating the thesaurus with a systemic approach is highlighted. At the same time, it is outlined the urgency of establishing an analysis list on the issue which will allow to exchange experiences among indexers. 1998 Editorial de Ciencias Médica ECIMED (Cuba) Se describen los antecedentes de la indización en el Sistema Nacional de Información de Ciencias Médicas. Se ofrecen datos sobre los cambios ocurridos en el Medical Subject Headings. Annotated Alphabetic List, donde se destaca el incremento ostensible de los descriptores y sinónimos entre los años 1992-1997. Se enfatiza en la necesidad de informar al Sistema los cambios ocurridos en el vocabulario, para lo cual se proponen soluciones prácticas como el restablecimiento del boletín Indización al Día y su diseminación a través de la red INFOMED. Se señala la importancia del surgimiento del Comité de Indización para este proceso y la necesidad de organizar, con un enfoque sistémico, la revisión y/o actualización del tesauro.
