AMPHORE - a standard-based media management system: Digital media like images, movies, audios and animation have become a vital part of many computer applications. Whether stored on CD-ROMs, hard discs or servers accessible via international networks, they allow new forms of information retrieval and presentation. AMPHORE strikes out in a new direction in this area by providing direct database access to individual sequences within larger digital video files. The AMPHORE system consists of a central database and a number of work places for documentation specialists having access to the database server. There is a SGML document description for every movie to be managed by the database; the individual film sequences are made searchable by means of thesaurus-based syntactical indexing.
