Analysis of the experiences in the construction of university library buildings in Brazil includes the revision of academic research carried by Valcy Augustinho (1987), that reveals problems related to construction materials and the disconsideration of regional climate aspects, and by José Galbinsky e Antonio Miranda (1993) studies that asking for previous planning of the library system and its infrastructure as a condition for modelling physical spaces. Consequently, the future library buildings must be flexible, compact, accessible, adaptable for amplifications, varied, organized, comfotable, stable weather conditions, secure and economic, not forgetting the ecological and ergonomical aspects. The impact of new information in the design is also considered. In conclusion, to be or not to be more or less intelligent is based not only in the degree of technologies used into architectural project, but also in the capacity to guarantee the constant renovation of these technologies, without causing new problems for the buildings. The concept of intelligent library building considers at the same time the tecnological updating as well as the capacity for continuing reorganizataion, in a sustainable basis.
