English abstract

This paper reviews the theoretical concept of "Automated Documentation", based on different conceptions of Information Science: The Otlet's Third Hypothesis, the Information Retrieval, and the Cognitive Approach. Finally, it proposes an inclusive definition that includes the necessary renewal of the concept of document.

Spanish abstract

Este trabajo revisa el concepto teórico de Documentación automatizada, partiendo de diferentes concepciones de las Ciencias de la Información: la Tercera Hipótesis de Otlet, la Information Retrieval y el enfoque cognitivo. Finalmente, propone una definición integradora, que incluye la necesaria renovación del propio concepto de documento.
