English abstract

Description of the company Royal Swets & Zeitlinger as it was in 2003, in full splendor. The plant was in Lisse (Holland) and had delegations in 19 countries. He had acquired the journals section of Blackwell (1999), Martinus Nijhoff (2002), and Extenza-Turpin (2002). This latest acquisition, disastrous for the management of subscriptions -Turpin became responsible for the journal subscriptions- marked the beginning of the decline. In 2003, Swets sold its 43 magazines (including "The Information Professional") to Taylor & Francis. The entry of new investors displaced the Swets family, to the point of withdrawing Adrian (Jos) Swets from the management. New managers were appointed who came from other industries (eg, oil) who did not understand what kind of business it was. The company fell slowly until it filed for bankruptcy in September 2014.

Descripción de la empresa Royal Swets & Zeitlinger tal como era en 2003, en pleno esplendor. La central estaba en Lisse (Holanda) y tenía delegaciones en 19 países. Había adquirido la sección de revistas de Blackwell (1999), Martinus Nijhoff (2002), y Extenza-Turpin (2002). Esta última adquisición, nefasta para la gestión de las suscripciones --Turpin pasó a encargarse de las revistas-, marcó el principio del declive. En 2003 Swets vendió sus 43 revistas (entre ellas "El profesional de la información") a Taylor & Francis. La entrada de nuevos inversores desplazó a la familia Swets, hasta el punto de retirar a Adrian (Jos) Swets de la dirección. Se nombraron nuevos directivos que venían de otras industrias (p.ej., petróleo) que no entendieron de qué tipo de negocio se trataba. La empresa fue cayendo lentamente hasta que se declaró en bancarrota en septiembre de 2014.
