English abstract

Nearly 45 years after the birth of the National Library Service (SBN), a highly valuable bibliographic tool, JLIS.it resumes, from its proper academic journal perspective, the debate on cataloging cooperation in Italy, and the national bibliographic services promoted for the benefit of the research community and the broader reading public. The journal wishes to offer a proactive contribution at a time when many bibliographic agencies and libraries are experiencing a long transition period that is forcing them to thoroughly rethink their mission. Therefore, JLIS.it has chosen to focus this issue on a problematic axis, with a critical rather than celebratory dimension, and with an open eye to the innovative global context. It seeks to seize the opportunities offered by the language of the web and to highlight some Italian experiences that are useful for redefining cataloging cooperation in the contemporary context.

Italian abstract

A circa 45 anni dalla nascita del Servizio bibliotecario nazionale (SBN), uno strumento bibliografico di grande valore, JLIS. it riprende, dalla prospettiva che le è propria di rivista accademica, il dibattito sulla cooperazione catalografica in Italia e sui servizi bibliografici nazionali promossi a beneficio della comunità dei ricercatori e del più ampio pubblico dei lettori. La rivista desidera offrire un contributo propositivo, in un momento in cui molte agenzie bibliografiche e molte biblioteche stanno vivendo una fase di lunga transizione che le obbliga a ripensare a fondo la propria mission. Pertanto, JLIS.it ha scelto d’impostare il fascicolo su un asse problematico, con una dimensione critica e non celebrativa, e con lo sguardo aperto al contesto globale innovativo, cercando di cogliere le opportunità offerte dal linguaggio del web e di valorizzare alcune esperienze italiane, utili per ridefinire la cooperazione catalografica nella dimensione contemporanea.
