English abstract

The article introduces Wikipedia, as an online free encyclopedia on internet and motivates the interested writers to contribute for the development of Kannada Wikipedia. The article traces the genesis and development of free online Wikipedia, emphasizes the fast growth with the appropriate statistics explaining the functioning of Wikipedia. Pointing at Wikipedia’s presence in many other languages like Chinese, Japanese and even Indian regional languages, the author focuses on the development of Kannada Wikipedia and suggests that authors, columnists and translators who have already done considerable work should consider contributing to the growth of Kannada Wikipedia by adding their works. The author also foresees the positive impact of popularity of wikipedia and internet on computer literacy and e-governance.

ಇಂಟರ್‌ನೆಟ್‌ನಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಮುಕ್ತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಇ-ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶ ಇರುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ನೀಡುವ ಲೇಖನ ಆಸಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುವತ್ತ ಸೆಳೆಯುವ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಹುಟ್ಟಿನಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಅದು ಬೆಳೆದು ಬಂದ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಅವಲೋಕಿಸುವ ಲೇಖನ ಅದರ ಅಗಾಧತೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ವೇಗವನ್ನೂ ಅನೇಕ ಅಂಕಿ ಅಂಶಗಳ ಸಹಾಯದಿಂದ ನಿರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದ ಕಾರ್ಯವೈಖರಿಯನ್ನು ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುವ ಲೇಖನ, ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ, ಜಪಾನಿ, ಚೀನಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅನೇಕ ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯೆಡೆಗೆ ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕೃತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಲೇಖಕರು, ಬರಹಗಾರರು, ಅಂಕಣಕಾರರು, ಭಾಷಾಂತರಕಾರರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದ ಶೀಘ್ರ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಇಂಬು ನೀಡಿ, ಇತರ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷೇತರ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಂತೆ ದೊರಕಿರುವ ಅವಕಾಶವನ್ನು ಸದುಪಯೋಗ ಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಲೇಖನ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ಕರೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಬಹುಮಾದ್ಯಮ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸೇರಿಸಬಹುದು. ವಿಕೀಡಿಯಾದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಗುಣವಿಶೇಷಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಅದರೆಡೆಗೆ ಬಂದ ಟೀಕೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಮುಕ್ತ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಆಗರ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತವಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಪಾಲಕರ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರ ಟೀಕೆಗಳನ್ನ್ನು ತಳ್ಳಿಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದ ಬಳಕೆಗೆ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡಿ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯಗೊಳಿಸಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಅಕ್ಷರತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ಇ-ಆಡಳಿತದ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪ್ರಸಾರ ಯೋಜನೆಗೂ ನೆರವಾಗಬಹುದೆಂಬ ದೂರದೃಷ್ಠಿಯನ್ನು ಲೇಖನ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.
