English abstract

This report describes and characterizes the results of the Madrid scientific production with international visibility, as much in the institutional level as by areas of knowledge, from the use of a set of indicators that help the analysis of the Madrid system of I+D. The main objective of this work is to elaborate a set of bibliometric indicators that serve to analyze and to monitor the scientific production of Madrid. These indicators have been completed with other data of economic and social nature. The study quantifies the scientific Madrid production, it characterizes it through a series of simple indicators from the quantitative and qualitative perspective. The study collects and analyzes the data available on the scientific production produced by the Madrid investigators on the exclusive base of publications gathered in the data bases of Thomson Scientific Web of Science, in period 1990-2003. The analysis contemplates in addition diverse levels to institutional and thematic aggregation. In the interpretation of the results he is advisable to consider that the report is centered in visible scientific Madrid production at international level. It has not been tried to analyze all the documents that the Community of Madrid generates. Nevertheless, the analyzed documents are a significant sample, since they are those that have greater probability of being recognized like the scientific Madrid contribution international science.

Este informe describe y caracteriza los resultados de la producción científica madrileña con visibilidad internacional, tanto en el nivel institucional como por áreas de conocimientos, a partir del uso de un conjunto de indicadores que ayudan al análisis del sistema madrileño de I+D. El principal objetivo de este trabajo es elaborar un conjunto de indicadores bibliométricos que sirvan para analizar y realizar un seguimiento adecuado de la producción científica de Madrid. Estos indicadores se han completado con otros datos de naturaleza económica y social. El estudio cuantifica la producción madrileña, la caracteriza a través de una serie de indicadores tanto simples como relacionales desde la perspectiva cuantitativa y cualitativa. El estudio recopila y analiza los datos disponibles sobre la producción científica producida por los investigadores madrileños sobre la base exclusiva de las publicaciones recogidas en las bases de datos de Thomson Scientific, en el período 1990-2003. El análisis contempla además diversos niveles de agregación institucional y temática. En la interpretación de los resultados es conveniente tener en cuenta que el informe se centra en la producción madrileña visible a nivel internacional. No se ha pretendido analizar todos los documentos que genera la Comunidad de Madrid. Sin embargo, los documentos analizados son una muestra significativa, ya que son aquellos que tienen mayor probabilidad de ser reconocidos como la aportación madrileña a la ciencia internacional.
