English abstract

The conception, planning and implementation of digital libraries demand innumerable studies in order to verify and guarantee their adequacy to the users’ necessities. This research, therefore, intends present the results of the usability analyzes of the InfoHab digital library, having as theoretical base the Constructivist model of user study proposed by Carol Kuhlthau and the criteria of usability established by Jacob Nielsen. In order to do so, a qualitative study with six users with different levels of academic formation and experience in the use of recovery systems was developed. Data was collected through personal interviews, prototype of the library, direct observation, and image and sound records. The aspects identified in the collected data are discussed and the results evidence some information architecture problems in organization, labeling, navigation and search systems of the digital library.

Estudos de usuários e de usabilidade em bibliotecas digitais estão se tornando cada vez mais freqüentes dado a imensa contribuição que representam para a concepção, planejamento e implementação de serviços e produtos. Este paper apresenta os resultados de um estudo feito na Biblioteca Digital InfoHab, onde foram analisadas as interações de seis usuários de diferentes níveis de formação acadêmica e de experiência durante a execução de uma tarefa específica.-Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados métodos de observação direta, entrevistas pessoais, com gravação de imagem e de som. As variáveis de estudo englobaram critérios oriundos da metodologia de Jacob Nielsen e da abordagem do processo construtivista de Carol Kuhlthau. Os resultados apontam para necessidades de melhor adequação da arquitetura de informação da Biblioteca Digital no que se refere aos seus quatro sistemas básicos, quais sejam: sistemas de organização da informação, de rotulagem, de navegação e de busca.
