English abstract

The presentation will describe the progress towards open access to UK research papers over the past two years, covering subject and instituional repository growth and "gold" open access developments. The JISC has funded many projects to support universities in repository development, and some universities have made new policy commitments in support of open access. The Research Councils have also made important policy decisions, and the Wellcome Trust has joined with other biomedical funding agencies in establishing UK PubMed Central. Many UK publishers now offer an open access option to authors and UK universities and funding agencies are currently developing procedures to enable authors to take advantage of these options.
