English abstract

The paper stresses the importance of acquisition librarian in collection development, points out the general lack of formal training in librarianship about mercantile and purchase activities, book trade practices and relevant laws of the land, enumerates the prevailing circumstances in which document acquisition decisions are made and finally attempts to highlight and discuss selected significant problems of selecting and purchasing of books, reports and journals in science and technology libraries.
