English abstract

The Internet is the host for enormous information. Details of Kannada books as well as few full text books are also available on the net in bits and pieces, but they are not integrated. Among the vast websites available, few are temporary and only about 45% of them are freely accessible. Large majority of information is in English, followed by other languages like German and Japanese. All other languages including Kannada are negligibly represented on the net. Many search engines allow searching Kannada books only by using English script. Search engines like Google and A9 bring the details of books along with pictures. Though few online bookstores provide details of selected Kannada books, absence of reputed Kannada publishers and booksellers on the Web is conspicuous. Publishers, universities and their libraries and other organizations of Karnataka have not put efforts in this regard. However few libraries from outside the State have done exceptional work and provided details of Kannada books on the Internet. With all its limitations an attempt worth mentioning is ‘Granthasampada’ of Kannada Ganaka Parishath. Kannada book industry and other related institutions should make efforts to provide a single window access to details of Kannada books with arrangements to periodically update them.

ಸಾರಾಂಶ: ಅಪಾರ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯ ಕಣಜವಾದ ಇಂಟರ್ನೆಟ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ವಿವರ ಮತ್ತು ಪೂರ್ಣಪಠ್ಯಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿವೆಯಾದರೂ ಒಂದಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಸಮನ್ವಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಂಟರ್ನೆಟ್ನ ೨೦ ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ತಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಶೇ ೪೫ರಷ್ಟು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪುಕ್ಕಟೆ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಉಳಿದದ್ದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನಂಶ ಜರ್ಮನ್ ಹಾಗು ಜಪಾನಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡವೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಉಳಿದೆಲ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಗಳೂ ಬಹು ಅಲ್ಪಸಂಖ್ಯಾತವಾಗಿವೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಶೋಧಯಂತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲೀಷ್ ಭಾಷೆ ಬಳಸಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಬಹುದಾಗಿದ್ದು ಂ೯, ಗೂಗಲ್ ಮುಂತಾದವು ಕೃತಿಗಳ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಮೇತ ಮುಂದಿರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಆನ್ಲೈನ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ದೊರಕಿಸುತ್ತವೆಯಾದರೂ, ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರು ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾರಾಟಗಾರರ ತಾಣಗಳು ನಿರಾಸೆ ಮೂಡಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಪ್ರಕಾಶಕರು, ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು, ವಿವಿ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಗಳು, ಇತರ ಕನ್ನಡಪರ ಸಂಘಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಇಂತಹ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನೂ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯಗಳ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಶ್ಲಾಘನೀಯ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯ ಇಲಾಖೆ, ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಶ್ವ ವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಗಳು ಮಾಡದ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಣಕ ಪರಿಷತ್ತು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಗ್ರಂಥಸಂಪದವನ್ನು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸಿದೆ. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವಾದರೂ ಕೆಲವು ಲೋಪದೋಷಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ತೊಡಕುಗಳು ಬಳಕೆಯನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಸಂಘಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಕಾಲಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಪರಿಷ್ಕರಿಸಿದ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಶೋಧಯಂತ್ರದ ಗಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಪದಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ದೊರಕಿಸಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನೇಕ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದರೂ ಕೂಡ ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆಯಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ನಿಷ್ಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿವೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕೋದ್ಯಮದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಏಕಗವಾಕ್ಷಿ ಮೂಲಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ದೊರಕಿಸಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರ, ವಿತರಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ತಲುಪಲು ನೆರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
