English abstract

Research, the key to development, is nowadays a profession whose practitioners require creativity, discipline, devotion and, most of all, training. Latin American and Caribbean countries need to develop their research communities in order to carry out high impact and steady research over a period of time. Therefore, higher education institutions must train human resources for the development of scientific activity in the field of library and information science, by taking into account that students learn how to do research during the research process itself.

Los conocimientos para el desarrollo de la sociedad se aseguran por medio de la investigación, profesión que para ejercerla se requiere de creatividad, disciplina, dedicación y, más que nada, de formación. En América Latina y el Caribe se requieren comunidades cuyos integrantes posean la creatividad, las habilidades y las actitudes necesarias para realizar investigación de calidad regularmente. Por tal motivo, las instituciones educativas deben orientarse hacia la formación de investigadores para el trabajo científico en bibliotecología y ciencia de la información, tomando en cuenta que el investigador se forma al participar en el proceso mismo de la investigación científica.
