English abstract

The effect of new information technologies significantly contributed to the development and provision of new information services by Greek Academic Libraries. The advantages and disadvantages of two distinct library organization models (i.e. functional and matrix structure models) are examined in the present paper, while ways of past and future application of the two models in the University of Thessaly Library are presented. Finally the mixed functional matrix structure is proposed as the best suited organizational model for the Greek Academic Libraries, taking into consideration that the particular conditions of each library’s development determine its likelihood and degree of actual employment.

Η επίδραση των νέων τεχνολογιών πληροφορίας συνέβαλε ουσιαστικά στην ανάπτυξη και παροχή νέων υπηρεσιών πληροφόρησης από τις ελληνικές ακαδημαϊκές βιβλιοθήκες. Σε αυτή την εργασία εξετάζονται τα πλεονεκτήματα και μειονεκτήματα δύο μοντέλων οργάνωσης βιβλιοθηκών, του λειτουργικού μοντέλου και του μοντέλου τύπου "matrix", καθώς και το πώς τα παραπάνω μοντέλα εφαρμόστηκαν ή προβλέπεται να εφαρμοστούν στη Βιβλιοθήκη του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας. Το μοντέλο οργάνωσης που προτείνεται ως καταλληλότερο για τις ελληνικές ακαδημαϊκές βιβλιοθήκες είναι αυτό του μεικτού λειτουργικού "matrix", λαμβάνοντας όμως υπόψη ότι εξαρτάται από τις ιδιαίτερες συνθήκες ανάπτυξης κάθε βιβλιοθήκης η πιθανότητα και ο βαθμός εφαρμογής του.
