English abstract

It is with great pleasure that we present this edition of the Proceedings of the Transborder Library Forum (Foro). The 2007 Transborder Library Forum was held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in February, 2007. We are pleased that there will be both a print edition and an online edition. Editing has been kept to a minimum to preserve the intent of the author in the language the paper was presented. The theme for the 2007 Foro was Bridging the Digital Divide. Topics ranged from international copyright issues to getting information to students in widely dispersed communities with little or no infrastructure except the Internet. While most attendees and speakers were from the USA and Mexico, we also had some from Uganda, Kenya, Hungary, and the West Indies.

Es un gran placer presentar la presente edición de las Memorias del Foro Transfronterizo de Bibliotecas. Dicho foro se celebró en el mes de febrero de 2007 en las instalaciones de la Universidad Estatal de Arizona que está ubicada en la ciudad de Tempe, Arizona. Esta edición está disponible tanto en formato impreso como digital. Ambas ediciones han sufrido mínimos cambios dado que la intención fue conservar las ideas y lengua original en que los autores presentaron sus trabajos. El tema central del Foro 2007 giró entorno a cómo sortear la brecha digital. Los tópicos, en ese sentido, abarcaron desde cuestiones internacionales de derecho de autor hasta estrategias acceso a la información por parte de estudiantes que se encuentran en comunidades con poca o ninguna infraestructura tecnológica. Si bien la mayoría de los asistentes y oradores fueron de los E.U. y Mexico, también había algunos de Uganda, Kenia, Hungría y El Caribe.
