English abstract

Risk Management and Disaster Planning Framework: BCIT's experience of implementing a business continuity plan. Learn from BCIT's experience of developing an effective emergency response program which has been twice tested with actual emergencies. This session will explain how the program components were developed in a complex, post-secondary institution that has more than 30,000 students and 2,000 employees. In 2003, BCIT's first emergency response policy assigned the program responsibility to the BCIT Safety and Security department. Following that, the emergency plans and business continuity plans were prepared by more than 20 campus departments. In the event of an emergency, BCIT has plans for an "Emergency Operations Centre", ("EOC"). The composition and work of the EOC will be explained.
