English abstract

Η εξάρτηση των εργαζομένων στις βιβλιοθήκες, αλλά και των χρηστών από τους υπολογιστές είναι τεράστια και γίνεται εμφανέστερη όταν παρουσιαστεί κάποιο πρόβλημα στα συστήματα της βιβλιοθήκης. Όλες οι λειτουργίες της βιβλιοθήκης, από τις υπηρεσίες προς το κοινό, μέχρι τις τεχνικές λειτουργίες, τον δανεισμό και την παροχή πληροφοριών, εξαρτώνται από τους υπολογιστές. Από τη δεκαετία του 1980 άρχισαν να δημιουργούνται τα ολοκληρωμένα συστήματα διαχείρισης βιβλιοθηκών, τα οποία αναφέρονται στα υπολογιστικά προγράμματα που εγκαθίστανται στη βιβλιοθήκη για να καλύψουν τις λειτουργίες της. Τα συστήματα αυτά εκσυγχρονίζονται και λειτουργούν σε περιβάλλον web, ακολουθώντας πρότυπα και κανόνες της βιβλιοθήκης. Η τάση είναι τα συστήματα να παραμένουν φιλικά προς τον χρήστη και ευέλικτα, αλλά και να διασυνδέονται με άλλα συστήματα.

Greek abstract

The dependence of both library staff and users on computers is tremendous and becomes more apparent when a technical problem occes in library's systems. All library function, ranging from user services to technical services, circulation and reference, rely on computers. Starting since 1980s the integrated library management systems are installed in libraries to automate their functions. Nowadays these systems have been modernized and work on a web interface, following library standards and rules. The trend is that the systems should be user friendly and flexible to interconnect with other library systems.
