English abstract

Overview on the 75th IFLA congress that will be held in Milan from 23 to 27 August 2009, sponsored by AIB (Italian Library Association) and supported by the Department of Cultural Heritage, the Region Lombardia, the province of Milan and the city of Milan. In 1929, Italy hosted the first International Congress on Library Science andd Bibliography, regarded as the first IFLA congress. The congress of 1929 leaded to the foundation of AIB, the Italian Library Association in 1930. The IFLA congress comes back to Italy after 45 years from its first edition as a proof of the indifference towards the international framework of Italian library science specialists. The chosen title, Libraries create futures: building on cultural heritage, well represents the peculiarity of Italian libraries in their consideration of tradition and present and future technologies.

Presentazione del 75° Congresso IFLA 2009, che si terrà a Milano dal 23 al 27 agosto 2009, sponsorizzato dall’AIB e supportato dal Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali, dalla Regione Lombardia, dalla Provincia di Milano e dal Comune di Milano. L’Italia ha ospitato a Roma, nel 1929, il primo Congresso mondiale delle biblioteche e di bibliografia, considerato il primo congresso IFLA. Il congresso del 1929 determinò la nascita dell’AIB nel 1930. Si sono tenuti convegni IFLA anche nel 1951 e 1964. Il Congresso IFLA ritorna in Italia dopo 45 anni dalla precedente edizione, un tempo lungo, che dimostra il disinteresse verso la dimensione internazionale che ha caratterizzato la biblioteconomia italiana negli ultimi quattro decenni. Il titolo scelto per il 2009, Libraries create futures: building on cultural heritage, ben rappresenta le peculiarità delle biblioteche italiane, quale momento di contatto fra le radici della storia e le tecnologie del presente e del futuro.
