English abstract

This contribution describes and analyses the European Commission's recent open access initiatives by relating them to official documents by the Commission, studies commissioned by it, public consultations, and similar initiatives and statements by European organisations. Informed by an open access-friendly point of view, the author concludes by specifying weaknesses of the European Commission's initiatives: the inadequate consideration of interdisciplinarity and the strong orientation towards natural sciences and medical research.

German abstract

Der Beitrag beschreibt und analysiert die jüngsten Open-Access-Initiativen der Europäischen Kommission, indem er sie zu offiziellen Dokumenten der Kommission, Studien in ihrem Auftrag, öffentlichen Konsultationen sowie ähnlichen Initiativen und Erklärungen europäischer Organisationen in Beziehung setzt. Abschließend werden von einem Open-Access-freundlichen Standpunkt aus Schwachpunkte dieser Initiativen der Europäischen Kommission angeführt: die unzulängliche Berücksichtigung der Spezifika von Interdisziplinarität und die starke Orientierung an Naturwissenschaften und Medizin.
