English abstract

Most Internet users are aware of the Wikipedia and many use it every day, but what is "the" Wikipedia? Who writes the articles, are they edited, who payed for it, and how large is it? This paper gives a few glimpses behind the scenes and discusses the history of the project and the people who make the Wikipedia usable as a free and open encyclopaedia.

Jeder kennt es, viele nutzen es täglich, aber wer/was ist dieses unbekannte Wesen Wikipedia? Wer schreibt die Artikel, wie wird lektoriert, wer bezahlt dafür, wie groß ist sie eigentlich? In diesem Artikel werden einige Einblicke in die Geschichte des Projekts gegeben sowie die Menschen vorgestellt, die damit beschäftigt sind, Inhalte zu erstellen und aufzubereiten für den täglichen Nutzen.
