English abstract

Since XIX century to date, humanity has been witness of radical changes in all areas. The progress in biological science, the application of new technology and the computer science, will entail a change and a challenge to health professionals. RESEÑA HISTÓRICA DEL DESARROLLO DE LAS BIBLIOTECAS MÉDICAS PARTE II (SIGLO XIX A NUESTROS DÍAS) HISTORIC REVIEW OF MEDICAL LIBRARIES DEVELOPMENT PART II ( XIX CENTURY TO DATE) On the other hand the medias studies will also be impact by this time, transforming its procedures and techniques. Medical libraries , in particular, will suffer a huge metamorphosis in its format as its services. In few years we will pass from the medical texts collection classified by authors, to a virtual library with access to complete texts and with search systems, that will provide the information almost instantaneously. Libraries and its professionals will adapt to those changes, and to the constant challenges of the new times as they have been doing it throughout history.

Desde el advenimiento del siglo XIX hasta hoy, la humanidad será testigo de cambios radicales en todas las áreas. Los progresos en el campo de las ciencias biológicas, la aplicación de las nuevas tecnologías y la informática conllevarán a un cambio de perfil del profesional de la salud y a un desafío permanente en la adquisición de nuevo conocimiento. Por otra parte las ciencias de la información también acusarán el impacto de los nuevos tiempos transformando sus procedimientos y técnicas. Particularmente las bibliotecas especializadas en medicina, sufrirán una metamorfosis radical tanto en su formato como en sus servicios. En pocos años pasaremos de una colección de textos de medicina impresos clasificados por autor, a una biblioteca virtual con claves de acceso remoto, a textos completos y sistemas de búsqueda de información casi instantáneo. Ante la llamada “explosión de información” y a todos los progresos tecnológicos, las bibliotecas y sus profesionales se adaptarán a los cambios y al desafío permanente de los nuevos tiempos como lo han hecho a lo largo de la historia.
