English abstract

The fee for services issue at information units supported by public funds is dealt with from a theo-retical perspective. The addition of value to information (from its creation to its dissemination), its price and the application of fees as a regulator of access to information resources are analysed from a social and economic point of view. Finally, some sociological and library movements in favour or against this type of fees are reviewed.

Spanish abstract

Se aborda de manera teórica el cobro de tasas por servicios en las unidades de información financiadas con fondos públicos. Se analiza, desde el punto de vista social y económico, cómo se aplica valor a la información (desde su creación hasta su puesta en valor), el precio de la misma y el uso de esos cobros como regulación del acceso a los recursos de información. Finalmente se repasan determinadas corrientes sociológicas y bibliotecarias que se oponen o están a favor de estos cargos.
