English abstract

After the explosion during the '80s in the Spanish library automation in the '90s has reached a maturity in the discipline which makes the approaches that are placed before our libraries today are more reflective, adjusted to the realities and needs, which in those primitive times. Indeed, we are in a very different situation we were in the early 80s. Then computers and computer were a strange thing for most professionals, among them, for librarians. It was known that in large American and European libraries using automated means to assist the management of libraries, especially in tasks in document analysis and loan. The first rules to regulate the processes of automation of libraries were already established at that time, although it reduced its dissemination and understanding between us. Many libraries are now suggesting, if not start your automation as they did ten or fifteen years ago, the possibility of changing the system, adopting new techniques and using electronic means as the Internet for some library applications. It is therefore a good time to reflect on how to proceed if you are thinking about installing, or possible developments if they already have a system. The library and information science students should learn the general principles of library automation and its procedures and standards.

Después de la explosión ocurrida durante los años 80 en la automatización de las bibliotecas españolas, en los años 90 se ha alcanzado una madurez en esta disciplina que hace que los planteamientos ante los que se sitúan nuestras bibliotecas en la actualidad sean más reflexivos, ajustados a la realidad y a las necesidades, que en aquellos primitivos tiempos. En efecto, estamos en una situación muy distinta a la que nos encontrábamos al comienzo de los años 80. Entonces los ordenadores y la informática eran una cosa extraña para la mayor parte de los profesionales y, entre ellos, para los bibliotecarios. Se sabía que en las grandes bibliotecas americanas y europeas se utilizaban medios automáticos para ayudar a la gestión de las bibliotecas, especialmente en las tareas de análisis documental y en las de préstamo. Las primeras normas para regular los procesos de automatización de las bibliotecas ya estaban establecidas en esa época, aunque era reducida su difusión y conocimiento entre nosotros. Muchas bibliotecas se plantean ahora, si no iniciar su automatización como hicieron hace diez o quince años, la posibilidad de cambiar de sistema, adoptar nuevas técnicas y usar medios telemáticos como Internet para algunas aplicaciones bibliotecarias. Es, por tanto, un buen momento para reflexionar sobre cómo proceder si se está pensando en instalar, o en la posible evolución si ya tienen un sistema. Los estudiantes de biblioteconomía y documentación deben conocer los principios generales de automatización de bibliotecas, así como sus procedimientos y normas.
