English abstract

In “Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records” (FRBR) are de-tailed 14 user generic tasks that should be made by a catalogue. In order to analyze how necessary is to implant a data modeling based on the FRBR, the execution on each generic task is studied in three shared catalogues: Fiction Finder, Open WorldCat and The European Library. Each task is executed on the basis of a same assumption search, evaluating later the efficiency of each one by means of the information of the bibliographic record, the data modeling used and the benefits of the catalogue. The efficiency in the accom-plishment is weighed in five levels. All tasks can be made in spite of not having implanted a model based on the FRBR, although 6 of the same ones need a change to be made at maximum level. This is considered a high percentage for being solely basic tasks.

Spanish abstract

En los “Requisitos Funcionales de los Registros Bibliográficos” (FRBR) se detallan 14 tareas genéricas de usuario que un catálogo debería poder realizar. Para analizar hasta qué punto es necesario implantar un modelo de datos basado en los FRBR se estudia la ejecución de cada tarea genérica en tres catálogos comparti-dos: Fiction Finder, Open WorldCat y The European Library. Cada tarea se ejecuta en base a un mismo supuesto de búsqueda, evaluando poste-riormente la eficiencia de cada una mediante la información del registro bibliográfi-co, el modelo de datos usado y las prestaciones del catálogo. La eficiencia en la rea-lización se pondera en cinco niveles. Todas las tareas pueden ser realizadas pese a no tener implantado un modelo basado en los FRBR, aunque 6 de las mismas precisan un cambio para ser realizadas a nivel máximo. Se considera éste un porcentaje elevado por ser únicamente tareas básicas.
