English abstract

The new technologies have revolutionized the field of Library and Information Sciences in the world. Currently it is expected that most libraries would have a presence on the Web and that also offer electronic catalogs to their patrons using Internet among other things. United States has been one of the engines of this changes followed by Europe but what happens in Central American libraries? This article provides a window to see what happens in the libraries of this region and their use of technology.

Las nuevas tecnologías han revolucionado el campo de Bibliotecología y Ciencias de la Información en el mundo. En la actualidad se espera que toda biblioteca esté presente en la Web y que ofrezca catálogos electrónicos accesibles por medio de Internet entre otros servicios. Los Estados Unidos ha estado a la cabeza de este cambio junto con Europa, pero qué pasa en Centro América? Este artículo ofrece una ventana para ver qué es lo que sucede en las bibliotecas Centroamericanas y el uso que le dan a la tecnología.
