English abstract

This thesis proposes that, once understood that the social labor of the librarian is in narrow relation with the education, then he can take an active role in sexual education during elementary school. Since the principal tool of every librarian to realize his educational labor is the library collection and specially children books, then it will be its major tool to fullfil it. Even though the librarian is not a teacher, he must be qualified to find the information the users require, and in coordination with other professionals of the educational system it can select and acquire the collection that answers to the information needs. In addition, she or he is able to handle any type of information in any format, he possesses the elements to find the information, therefore, he can give the children the materials and the information that they need. This work presents the different ways in which the school librarian can interfere and fulfill his sex educational role not only at the moment to select and acquire the library materials, but also at the librarian services and the activities of reading promotion in the library.

Spanish abstract

Esta tesis propone que, una vez entendido que la labor social del biblioteólogo está en estrecha relación con la educación, entonces debe y puede tomar un rol activo en la educación sexual de niños y niñas que cursan la escuela primaria en México. Puesto que el principal instrumento de todo bibliotecólogo para realizar su labor educativa es el acervo de su biblioteca y principalmente el conformado por la literatura infantil, entonces ésta será la principal herramienta que posea para tratar el tema de la sexualidad con sus usuarios. Aún cuando el bibliotecólogo no es un profesor, está o debe estar capacitado para encontrar la información requerida; en coordinación con otros profesionales del sistema educativo puede seleccionar y adquirir el material que mejor responda a las demandas informativas de los usuarios; está habilitado además para manejar cualquier tipo de información en cualquier formato; cuenta con los elementos para encontrar la información requerida y, por lo tanto, puede brindar a los niños los materiales y la información que requieren. Este trabajo presenta las distintas formas a través de las cuales el bibliotecólogo encargado de una biblioteca escolar puede involucrarse y cumplir su rol educativo en materia de sexualidad, tanto al momento de seleccionar y adquirir los materiales de la biblioteca, como al brindar los servicios documentales y estructurar las actividades de promoción lectora en la biblioteca.
