Over the past dseven years some key institutions inBrazil have developed a number of initiatives with the aim of implementing open access in the country. In the leadership of such work, the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) along with the University of Brasilia (UnB) have carried out projects and implemented actions both concerning both the green and the gold road. The gold road is a real success in the country, thanks to the work developed by Bireme, with the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and by Ibict along with cents of iuniversities and other academic institutions, with the Open Journal Systems (OJS). As regard the green road, Ibicxt has lead the initiatives with federal universities, and this work has been performed with the partnership of the University of Brasilia, the leading institution on the university institutional repositories context. So far, there are more than 800 scholarly electronic journals created under OJS, and more than 30 university institutional repositories well implemented
