This presentation is about the reasons to choose open source software and the components of its success, due to the availability of source code: large communities of developers, freedom from proprietary solutions, autonomy from vendors, TCO reduction, ROI increase. It also deals with advantages for users and opportunities for software service providers.

La presentazione illustra le motivazioni per la scelta di software open source e i fattori di successo determinati dalla disponibilità di codice sorgente: ampie community di sviluppatori, indipendenza dalle soluzioni proprietarie, indipendenza dai fornitori, riduzione del TCO, aumento del ROI. Accenna inoltre ai vantaggi per gli utilizzatori e alle opportunità che si presentano a chi opera nei servizi informatici.
