English abstract

Surely 2010 will be the year of introduction to Catalonia in the early readers e-books in public libraries. In 2009, the libraries UOC and UPC have already begun a series of pilot tests to analyze the response of users to this new technology. In the news they were receiving other neighboring countries can infer the high degree of acceptance of electronic books between users. However, it is true that we have a very mature technology and not only with respect to the technology itself but also regarding the available collections, mainly in Catalan and Spanish. Editors, librarians and consumers observe the neighbor waiting for some movement. We haven't a definitive model or even a standard for e-book readers or for the formats of these digital objects, but in fact you can buy the first models and collections. Libraries can not be left out of this new form of access and that's why, despite the uncertainties, the General Libraries has launched a pilot project to incorporate a total of 28 readers in a selected number of libraries Public Library System of Catalonia. In this paper a preliminary approach to the situation of the electronic book is describes the service model and business agreed with the supplier for this project Specifically, the various collections available in our country and state of the art regarding e-book readers. They also discussed the issues that remain open, clear business models for libraries, lack of specific services for the distribution and loan collections of electronic books to libraries, etc..

Segurament 2010 serà l’any de la introducció a Catalunya dels primers lectors de llibres electrònics a les biblioteques públiques. Durant el 2009, les biblioteques de la UPC i la UOC ja han iniciat una sèrie de proves pilot per analitzar la resposta dels usuaris davant d’aquesta nova tecnologia. De les notícies que es van rebent d’altres països del nostre entorn podem deduir l’alt grau d’acceptació dels llibres electrònics entre els usuaris. Tot i això, és cert que ens trobem davant d’una tecnologia molt poc madura, i no només pel que respecta a la tecnologia en sí mateixa sinó també pel que fa a les col·leccions disponibles, sobretot en llengua catalana i castellana. Editors, bibliotecaris i consumidors observen el veí esperant algun moviment. No tenim encara un estàndard definitiu ni per als lectors de llibres electrònics ni per als formats d’aquests objectes digitals, però, de fet ja es poden adquirir els primers models i col·leccions. Les biblioteques no poden quedar al marge d’aquesta nova forma d’accés i és per això que, tot i les incerteses, la Subdirecció General de Biblioteques ha engegat un projecte pilot per a incorporar un total de 28 lectors en un nombre seleccionat de biblioteques del Sistema de Lectura Pública de Catalunya. En aquest treball es fa una primera aproximació a la situació del llibre electrònic, es descriu el model de servei i negoci acordat amb el proveïdor per aquest projecte concret, les diferents col·leccions disponibles al nostre país i un estat de la tècnica pel que fa als lectors de llibres electrònics. S’hi tractaran també els temes que encara queden oberts, models de negocis clars per a les biblioteques, falta de serveis específics per a la distribució i préstec de col·leccions de llibres electrònics a biblioteques, etc.
