English abstract

This study examines the possibility to promote and encourage reading in the community Neighbourhood Romeo Tortorelli, in São Carlos, through the sharing of a particular library installed in a residence. This research is justified in view of the development of social action community translated into reading activities as facilitator and disseminator of knowledge. It is considered that this action should not be restricted to governments, but a concern with the collective and citizen welfare. To this end, we sought to achieve the following objectives: to make the loan on an ongoing basis and to return the documents to users, aware of methods already developed in similar units of information, promoting incentives for reading practice through the provision of the acquis community, adding value to the community leading informational support and encouraging access to information; meet the information needs of users, promote the service offered to the community through posters on buses, clinics, schools and other communication vehicles. The methodology applied in this project was based on a largely qualitative analysis based on data collected by the application of interviews with residents of the neighborhood Romeo Tortotorelli and other areas of the city also benefited from the action of sharing. During the research, it was shown that the transformation of the community library collection in particular is extremely important because it sets up the process of information dissemination and promotion of cultural emancipation, social and citizen of the local population, with the possibility of the acquis come to be characterized as a valuable information center for the whole community, characterized by diverse informational needs, from cooking recipes to documental technical, scientific, poetic, artistic, including musical scores, photographs, etc.. The study has also shown that this kind of action can come from individuals who want to assist and cooperate with the intellectual and social development of a country, a community, a tribe or something similar. All things considered, it is understood that this library contributes to the formation of reading habits in the neighborhood and that the education of individuals need to emphasize reading as a means of social inclusion and improvement to their training. It is concluded that the main objectives were achieved, such as awakening the pleasure of reading, and provide informational support that meets the diverse needs of the community, to promote democratic access to reading and knowledge. It was realized how important it is encouraging the act of reading and how marginal communities value, substantially, the social actions that favor them.

Portuguese abstract

Este trabalho analisa a possibilidade de se promover e estimular a leitura na comunidade do bairro Romeu Tortorelli, no município de São Carlos, por meio do compartilhamento de uma biblioteca particular instalada numa residência. Justifica-se essa pesquisa tendo em vista o desenvolvimento de ação social comunitária traduzida em atividades de leitura como instrumento facilitador e disseminador do conhecimento. Considera-se que esta não deva ser uma ação restrita aos governantes, mas uma preocupação coletiva e cidadã com o bem estar social. Para tanto, buscou-se alcançar os seguintes objetivos específicos: viabilizar de forma contínua o empréstimo e a devolução dos documentos aos usuários; tomar conhecimento de métodos já desenvolvidos em unidades de informação semelhantes; promover o incentivo à prática de leitura através da disposição do acervo à comunidade; agregar valor à comunidade levando suportes informacionais e estimulando o acesso à informação; atender às necessidades informacionais dos usuários; divulgar o serviço oferecido para a comunidade por meio de cartazes em ônibus, postos de saúde, escolas e outros veículos de comunicação. A metodologia aplicada nesse projeto pautou-se numa análise predominantemente qualitativa com base em dados coletados pela aplicação de entrevistas junto aos moradores do bairro Romeu Tortotorelli e de outras regiões da cidade, também beneficiadas pela ação de compartilhamento. Durante a pesquisa, demonstrou-se que a transformação do acervo particular em biblioteca comunitária é de extrema importância, pois se configura no processo de disseminação da informação e promoção de emancipação cultural, social e cidadã da população do bairro, com a possibilidade de o acervo vir a caracterizar-se como um valioso centro de informações para toda comunidade, caracterizada por necessidade informacional diversificada, desde receitas de culinária a acervo documental técnico, científico, poético, artístico, entre os quais partituras, fotografias etc. O estudo demonstrou, ainda, que esse tipo de ação pode vir de cada indivíduo que deseja auxiliar e colaborar com o desenvolvimento intelectual e social de um país, de uma comunidade, de uma tribo ou algo semelhante. Como considerações finais entende-se que essa biblioteca contribui para a formação do hábito de leitura no bairro e que a educação dos indivíduos precisa dar ênfase à leitura como via de inclusão social e de melhoria para a sua formação. Conclui-se que os objetivos principais foram alcançados, tais como: despertar o prazer pela leitura, fornecer suporte informacional diversificado e que atenda às necessidades da comunidade, promover o acesso democrático à leitura e ao conhecimento. Percebeu-se o quanto é importante o incentivo ao ato de ler e o quanto comunidades marginais valorizam, substancialmente, as ações sociais que lhes favorecem.
