English abstract

The thesis analyzes the role taken by both scientific journals and bibliographic information products, in the new relations between Spain and Latin American. The combination of technological development with the promotion of cultural and scientific relations in the Iberoamerican Community of Nations, form a virtual space, which defines the framework of the study. The research methodology is based on both quantitative and qualitative techniques. Despite the growing importance of scientific and academic relations, there is considerable room for improvement to seek greater inter-Iberoamerican scientific community. Internet facilitates scientific cooperation and online higher education in their own language. The publication of scientific journals is a communication channel which can be enhanced scientific exchange further by the international contribution of Hispanic, Iberian and Latin American Studies. Documentary resources focused on the national and regional scientific publications, make a wide range of products. Iberoamerican coverage, encompassing the sources of Spain, Portugal and Latin America, is emerging in the design of new sources of scientific documentation, enhanced by the facilities for dissemination via Internet. In the production of different resources from literature in Spanish language, the thesis highlights the work of the UNAM in Mexico (especially CLASE and PERIODICA databases) and the CSIC in Spain (ISOC, ICYT and IME databases). It also analyzes the system Latindex, Virtual Health Library, SciELO, Redalyc and Dialnet. These products are compared, concluding that the major databases are complementary and therefore there are possibilities for cooperation. Scientific information systems are essential to build the target of a Iberoamerican Area of Knowledge.

Spanish abstract

Se analiza el rol que están asumiendo tanto las revistas científicas como los productos de información bibliográfica, en el nuevo entorno de las relaciones iberoamericanas. La conjunción del desarrollo tecnológico con la potenciación de las relaciones culturales y científicas en la Comunidad Iberoamericana de Naciones, conforman un espacio virtual iberoamericano, que define el marco del estudio. La metodología de la investigación se basa tanto en técnicas cuantitativas como cualitativas. A pesar de la importancia creciente de las relaciones científicas y académicas, hay un amplio terreno de mejora para buscar una mayor interconexión de la comunidad científica iberoamericana. Internet facilita la cooperación científica y la enseñanza superior a distancia en la propia lengua. La edición de revistas científicas constituye un canal de comunicación en el que puede potenciarse el intercambio científico iberoamericano, enriquecido además por la aportación internacional de los Estudios Hispánicos, Ibéricos y Latinoamericanos. Los recursos documentales enfocados hacia las publicaciones científicas nacionales y regionales, conforman una amplia oferta de productos. La cobertura iberoamericana, englobando las fuentes de España, Portugal y América Latina, se está abriendo paso en el diseño de nuevos recursos de documentación científica, potenciada por las facilidades para la difusión a través de Internet. En la producción de diferentes recursos de documentación científica en español destaca la labor realizada por la UNAM en México (en especial las bases de datos CLASE y PERIÓDICA) y el CSIC en España (bases de datos ISOC, ICYT e IME). También se analizan el sistema Latindex, la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud y las hemerotecas digitales SciELO, Redalyc y Dialnet. Se comparan estos productos, concluyendo que las principales bases de datos son complementarias y, por consiguiente, existen posibilidades para la cooperación iberoamericana. Los sistemas de información científica son esenciales para construir el objetivo de un Espacio Iberoamericano del Conocimiento.
