English abstract

The article explores how libraries are incorporating e-books, e-readers, in their collections and services. Taking as a starting point, the Cushing Academy in Massachusetts, the article takes the concept of remediation Bolter to theorize about how libraries are related to these devices, while delivering a brief overview of developments this technology and examines social and economic aspects related to the adoption and use of electronic book readers.

El artículo explora cómo las bibliotecas están incorporando los lectores de libros electrónicos, e-readers, en sus colecciones y servicios. Tomando como punto de partida el caso de la Academia Cushing en Massachusetts, el artículo parte del concepto de remediación de Bolter para teorizar sobre la manera en que las bibliotecas se relacionan con estos dispositivos, al tiempo que se entrega una breve visión de la evolución de esta tecnología y se examina algunos aspectos sociales y económicos asociados a la adopción del uso de los lectores de libros electrónicos.
