English abstract

In many academic libraries in the United States librarians have the same academic status as the teaching faculty. This status has an impact on librarians´ tasks because it attempts to equate the academic requirements and duties of both professions. This article compares both the duties of librarians and professors in order to demonstrate that, although both professions have a teaching nature, they have different purposes.
