English abstract

This article intends a critical analysis of the levels of participation of attendees, presenters (posters), and speakers who took part in the annual IFLA congress in Puerto Rico August 13th and 18th of 2011. These levels of participation account for the levels of representation of different countries in such events and, in an area of special interest to us, also give an account of the possibilities of Latin American countries, their associations, libraries, schools, departments, and information professionals to take part in them and present the theoretical, conceptual, and practical developments in our region.

Spanish abstract

Este artículo tuvo como propósito hacer un análisis crítico de los niveles de participación de asistentes, presentadores (pósteres) y ponentes que tomaron parte en el más reciente Congreso anual de la IFLA, que tuvo lugar en Puerto Rico entre el 13 y el 18 de agosto de 2011. Estos niveles de participación dan cuenta de la representatividad de los distintos países en este tipo de eventos, y en el caso concreto de nuestro interés, de las posibilidades de los países latinoamericanos, sus asociaciones, bibliotecas, escuelas, facultades y profesionales de la información de intervenir en ellos y dar a conocer los desarrollos teóricos-conceptuales y prácticos de nuestra región.
