English abstract

This article describes and analyzes the case of participation of the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in FLICKR, the platform for publishing and sharing photos. The analysis is particularly comprehensive, resorting, predominantly, to qualitative methodologies, with regard to forms of participation of Internet users in the gallery. It appears that this project led to a significant increase in knowledge and use of photographic collections available and attracted new audiences. Frequent users' behaviours were viewing the photographs and noting those of their choice. The assignment of comments and keywords, not being quantitatively relevant, is still of significance since it brings new information and knowledge to the network, often based on evidence supported by credible external sources.

Descreve-se e analisa-se o caso da participação da Biblioteca de Arte da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian na plataforma de publicação e partilha de fotografias FLICKR. A análise é particularmente exaustiva, socorrendo-se de metodologias predominantemente qualitativas, no que respeita às formas de participação dos internautas na galeria. Verifica-se que este projecto conduziu a um aumento significativo do conhecimento e utilização das colecções fotográficas disponibilizadas e atraiu novos públicos. Os comportamentos mais frequentes dos utilizadores são os de visualizar as fotografias e assinalar as da sua preferência. A atribuição de comentários e palavras-chave, não sendo quantitativamente relevante, é significativa na medida em que traz novas informações e conhecimento para a rede, muitas vezes fundamentado em evidências que se apoiam em fontes externas credíveis.
